About Jan
Jan Dijkers is a 25-plus-year resident of Detroit, spending most of that time in the Woodbridge neighborhood. She has been a licensed Realtor since 2005, and currently holds the position of President and Managing Broker for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices The Loft Warehouse. She is a top producer, having earned distinction among Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices agents every year since 2018, and most recently, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chairman’s Circle Platinum in 2024. Locally she has earned Hour Detroit Magazine’s “Real Estate All Star” for multiple years.
She was part of a development team that converted a Brush Park mansion into four condominium units in 2006. In 2021, she and her business partner completed a 5-year development project, converting an historic commercial property in New Center into mixed-use. Jan owned and operated a property management firm for 10 years, which managed an estimated 400 rental units at the time of sale in 2018. These experiences have given Jan special expertise that she can impart to her investor and developer clients, especially related to developer support services.
Jan has a particular interest in the emerging markets of Detroit. She has, what some would call, an unhealthy obsession with helping homeowners navigate property taxes, tax assessments, and tax abatements.
Jan is “house-hacking” in a duplex she owns, lives in, and rents out, in historic Woodbridge, with her long-time partner, and their two rescue pitbull mutts.

You can only appeal during the February window (Feb 1–22). Start by reviewing your assessment notice. Look for errors like the wrong square footage, a missed basement, or a neighborhood multiplier (ECF) that doesn’t match reality. Gather recent sales (comps) from your area and highlight differences. File with the Assessor’s Review first; if denied, escalate to the Board of Review or Michigan Tax Tribunal. The more organized your evidence, the stronger your case.

Yes. While prices have risen in some areas, many neighborhoods still offer homes under $200K—a rare find in major U.S. cities. That affordability is a big reason first-time buyers are looking here.

Neighborhoods like Woodbridge, University District, Indian Village, Boston-Edison, and Palmer Woods are top choices for their architecture, tree-lined streets, and strong communities. These areas attract buyers who want character and long-term value.

I track MLS listings, off-market deals, and investor networks. Multi-family homes move quickly, so having a pipeline and quick response is key.

Spring and early summer typically bring the most buyers, but serious buyers are active year-round. Timing also depends on your personal goals.
